Use

Hold the sharpener in your hand like a file and the knife to the side.

Find the edge by making light strokes until the entire edge becomes shiny. Then you have found the correct angle.

Continue with even strokes along the full length of the edge.

Repeat the same number of strokes on both sides of the knife.

When the edge starts to bite, flip the sharpener and use the finer side to remove the burr.

The sharpener works for knives, axes, and many types of tools.
