How to use Scout
Scout is designed for quick and easy edge maintenance. The goal is not to regrind the entire edge, but to restore a sharp, straight edge when your tool starts to get dull.
Knife
Hold the knife at the correct angle against Scout and move it along the edge using a smooth, circular motion. Work all the way along the edge and alternate between sides to keep the edge centered.
Once you're done, the edge may need to be straightened slightly. This is easily done against the rounded steel edge on Scout. Draw the edge lightly against the steel edge and alternate sides until the edge is straight again.
Axe
With an axe, the easiest method is to let Scout follow the edge. Use the same principle: the correct angle, circular motions, and roughly the same amount of sharpening on both sides.
An axe edge normally does not need to be straightened in the same way as a knife edge.
